Deploying 2048-byte frames and 20Mbps data rates to unify legacy automotive bus topologies with IP-based service architectures.
High-speed data phases on legacy twisted-pair cables create destructive reflection ringing at branch splices. Standard CAN transceivers required linear bus topologies without long stubs. CAN SIC XL silicon actively drives the bus differential voltage back to recessive levels during transitions, dampening ringing and allowing complex star topologies at 20Mbps.
SOME/IP (Scalable service-Oriented MiddlewarE over IP) headers alone consume 16 bytes, making transport over CAN (8 bytes) or CAN-FD (64 bytes) inefficient due to constant fragmentation (SOME/IP-TP). With CAN XL's 2048-byte MTU, entire SOME/IP service invocations and payloads fit into a single frame, bridging seamlessly into Ethernet gateways without CPU-heavy reassembly buffers.
